Sandra Gottlieb and Alex Noland Honored With CAI Awards

March 24, 2011 by David C. Swedelson

The Orange County Regional Chapter of Community Associations Institute (CAI-OCRC) held its annual awards dinner on February 25, 2011 at the Disneyland Grand Californian Hotel. Swedelson & Gottlieb would like to extend our congratulations to all of the award winners, which were recognized from every corner of the community association industry.

Our own Sandra Gottlieb received the President's Award, which is given by the outgoing President of the Chapter to the individual deemed most influential and supportive in their role as President. Also, our own Alex Noland received the Program Coordinator of the Year Award in recognition of his hard work supporting CAI-OCRC's educational objectives for its members. Way to go! Continue reading to see the kind words expressed by Ramona Acosta of Accell Property Management, the Chapter's outgoing President, as to why she chose Sandra for the President's Award, as well as CAI-OCRC's introduction of Alex Noland for his award.

"The President's Award is presented to an individual who has brought recognition to the Chapter and influenced the Chapter President to achieve a higher degree of excellence…

This year’s recipient is someone who was not only a help to me this past year, but has been a mentor to me throughout my career. I first met this individual in 2000, and we became instant friends. I was just finishing my PCAM Case Study and had started my own management firm. She was integral in helping my business partner and I get our new company off the ground, and was happy to send business our way. She prompted me to attend my first National Conference to be sworn in as a PCAM, and inspired me to become more involved with the Chapter. When my business partner and I went our separate ways, she encouraged me to press on and put me in touch with individuals who could help me get back on my feet. Something that you may not know about me is I’m not that much of a joiner by nature. Often willing and interested in participating, but too shy to get involved. This individual saw something in me, and asked me to chair the Education Committee. This was just what I needed to get active in the Chapter. When Kathy later asked me to run for the Board, it was this individual who gave me the nudge to run and the confidence to think I could win. Once a Board member, several people asked when I would run for President. My response was, 'it’s not going to happen. I’m content where I am.' And when Dori asked me to be her President-Elect, I hesitated, wondering if I was really ready to take on this type of responsibility. It was this individual, who told me this was my time, again, pushing me to move forward and believing in me to do it. Throughout this past year, her insights into the workings of the Chapter were instrumental in guiding the Board and the Executive Committee through challenges, as well as new ventures. Her personal advice to me was invaluable and I love her dearly.

Please join me in honoring my friend, Sandra L. Gottlieb."

"As a relatively new committee member, Alex has taken the initiative in making the programs at each month's luncheon the best they can be. He is seen by the Committee as a valuable leader and has great insight in making each program better. He has coordinated programs with speakers from outside the industry, making them relevant to all membership groups of CAI. He has recently been appointed co-chair of the Programs Committee."
